Along Route 107, in a wide-open lot, on a hot Monday evening in August, nearly 225 cars were on display for a crowd of people enjoying and appreciating both the beautiful vehicles and the ability to attend a live event to benefit the Michael Magro Foundation (MMF). The August 9th event featured an array of car styles \u2013 exotic, classic, and muscle \u2013 which drew aficionados, families, and supporters of the organization as well as local residents who met the organization for the first time. Chaired once again by Tom Galati and Larry Ruisi, the event raised more than $11,000 for Michael Magro Foundation programs, supporting families with a child battling pediatric cancer primarily on Long Island.<\/p>\n

\u201cI am so thrilled that the community turned out in such numbers to support our MMF families. From the car owners to the community that came out for a great day, we are so appreciative of everyone for helping us raise funds and awareness about our mission,\u201d said organization co-Founder Terrie Magro when asked about the turnout. She went on to say, \u201cEach year the event has grown \u2013 in attendees and beautiful cars. Support from our sponsors, the local car clubs, and, of course, our volunteers helps us keep building the show. We can\u2019t wait to see the event grow even further next year.\u201d<\/p>\n

Michael Magro Foundation is a 501(c) 3 non-profit organization founded by Paul and Terrie Magro to honor the life of their son Michael, who passed away from leukemia at the age of 13. The Foundation works with the Cancer Center for Kids at NYU Langone Long Island Hospital, Stony Brook Children\u2019s Cancer Division, Cohen\u2019s Children\u2019s Hospital, and other regional pediatric specialty offices where treatment of chronic diseases is ongoing. The core programs offered are Life Essentials [helping families struggling financially during their child\u2019s treatment with non-medical expenses]; Project SOAR [providing support for childhood cancer patients, families, students, and teachers when the patient returns to school following long illnesses]; and Bonding With Baby [helping siblings of babies in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) communicate and bond]. The organization has expanded its work to include children\u2019s hospitals in New York City and several areas throughout Florida, as well as in Texas and Oregon.<\/p>\n
