\"\"<\/a>The Michael Magro Foundation, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization dedicated to the support of children with cancer and their families, will be hosting its 13th<\/sup> Annual Evening of Tasting and Giving on October 2, 2017.  The event will take place at The Carltun at Eisenhower Park in East Meadow from 6:30 PM \u2013 9:30 PM, and will feature some of Long Island\u2019s best restaurants, bakeries, and wineries.<\/p>\n

Each year in the U.S. there are approximately 13,500 children who are diagnosed with cancer before the age of nineteen.  For a family receiving a pediatric cancer diagnosis, it is devastating.  Monies raised from the Gala will go to benefit The Cancer Center for Kids at NYU Winthrop University Hospital, the Pediatric Hematology Oncology Program at Stony Brook Hospital, and other pediatric specialty programs.<\/p>\n

Started by Terrie and Paul Magro, the Michael Magro Foundation honors the memory of their son Michael, who was diagnosed with leukemia (A.L.L) as a thirteen-year-old seventh grade student. Michael passed away within months of that diagnosis.  The foundation\u2019s mission is to better the lives of children like Michael and their families by educating patients, families, teachers, physicians, and communities about the intricacies of pediatric cancer care and long-term treatment effects.  The foundation also strives to bring people together to raise funds and awareness for children with cancer and other chronic illnesses.  Some of the Foundations initiatives include the school re-entry program, SOAR; psychosocial programs; gifts for patients; emergency funds for families; and much more.<\/p>\n

This year\u2019s Gala honors two of Long Island\u2019s most widely respected business professionals, Mike and Rick Cave, who are recognized by the community, colleagues, and charities alike for their entrepreneurial spirit and unmatched integrity.  The Cave brothers have inspired the community through their Go-Give moment, PinkTie.org, the fastest growing charitable networking organization on Long Island.  The Cave\u2019s PinkTie1000 Foundation has joined with the Michael Magro Foundation, combining charitable efforts and ensuring that money stays where it is raised, allowing for the greatest impact on the community in which we work and love. <\/p>\n

About The Michael Magro Foundation:<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n

Michael Magro was a thirteen-year-old seventh grade student at Hicksville Middle School in Hicksville, New York, when he was diagnosed with leukemia (A.L.L.). He passed away within months of that diagnosis. The Michael Magro Foundation<\/strong>, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization, was established in January 2005 to honor Michael\u2019s life.  The efforts of the Foundation started with the pediatric cancer patients and their families at the Cancer Center for Kids at Winthrop-University Hospital as well as to other Winthrop pediatric specialties where the treatment of chronic diseases is ongoing because that is where Michael was treated. Additionally, the Foundation awards two scholarships each year; one an academic and sports scholarship through the Hicksville High School Scholarship program to a student excelling in academics and sports; the other is a culinary scholarship endowed for a senior entering Culinary School.  <\/p>\n
