{"id":3927,"date":"2017-08-14T16:18:13","date_gmt":"2017-08-14T16:18:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/michaelmagrofoundation.com\/old2\/?p=3927"},"modified":"2017-08-14T16:18:13","modified_gmt":"2017-08-14T16:18:13","slug":"michael-magro-foundation-to-host-13th-annual-evening-of-tasting-and-giving","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/michaelmagrofoundation.com\/old2\/michael-magro-foundation-to-host-13th-annual-evening-of-tasting-and-giving\/","title":{"rendered":"Michael Magro Foundation to Host 13th Annual Evening of Tasting and Giving"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/michaelmagrofoundation.com\/old2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/13th-Annual-Tasting1.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-3929 \" src=\"https:\/\/michaelmagrofoundation.com\/old2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/13th-Annual-Tasting1.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"235\" height=\"363\"><\/a>The Michael Magro Foundation, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization dedicated to the support of children with cancer and their families, will be hosting its 13<sup>th<\/sup> Annual Evening of Tasting and Giving on October 2, 2017.&nbsp; The event will take place at The Carltun at Eisenhower Park in East Meadow from 6:30 PM \u2013 9:30 PM, and will feature some of Long Island\u2019s best restaurants, bakeries, and wineries.<\/p>\n<p>Each year in the U.S. there are approximately 13,500 children who are diagnosed with cancer before the age of nineteen.&nbsp; For a family receiving a pediatric cancer diagnosis, it is devastating.&nbsp; Monies raised from the Gala will go to benefit The Cancer Center for Kids at NYU Winthrop University Hospital, the Pediatric Hematology Oncology Program at Stony Brook Hospital, and other pediatric specialty programs.<\/p>\n<p>Started by Terrie and Paul Magro, the Michael Magro Foundation honors the memory of their son Michael, who was diagnosed with leukemia (A.L.L) as a thirteen-year-old seventh grade student. He passed away within months of that&nbsp;diagnosis.&nbsp;The <strong>Michael&nbsp;Magro Foundation<\/strong>, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization, was established in January 2005 to honor Michael\u2019s life.&nbsp; The efforts of the Foundation started&nbsp;with the pediatric cancer patients and their families at the Cancer Center&nbsp;for Kids at Winthrop-University Hospital as well as to other Winthrop&nbsp;pediatric specialties where the treatment of chronic diseases is ongoing&nbsp;because that is where Michael was treated.
