OUR STORY
OUR STORY
The Michael Magro Foundation was created to bring hope, support, and relief to families facing the unimaginable—the diagnosis of pediatric cancer or other chronic childhood illnesses. Our mission is to enhance the lives of children undergoing treatment, pediatric cancer survivors, and their families by providing critical resources, financial assistance, and emotional support.
Michael Magro was just 13 years old, a seventh-grade student at Hicksville Middle School in New York, when he was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia (A.L.L.). A bright and kind-hearted young man, Michael had a passion for lacrosse and music, always bringing joy to those around him. He was a peacemaker, a loyal friend, and a source of strength for his family. Even in the face of illness, his unwavering spirit and resilience inspired everyone who knew him. Tragically, Michael’s battle with leukemia was brief, but his legacy continues to shine through the work of this foundation.
Founded in January 2005 to honor Michael’s life, the foundation began its work at the Cancer Center for Kids at NYU Winthrop-University Hospital, where he received care. Over time, our reach has expanded to support families across multiple hospitals and pediatric oncology specialties, ensuring children and their loved ones receive the help they need during their most challenging moments.
Today, we remain committed to providing comfort, financial aid, and programs that bring real relief to families navigating childhood illness. Michael’s memory lives on in every child we uplift, every family we support, and every act of generosity that brings hope to those who need it most.
Together, we honor Michael’s legacy—one family at a time.
