OUR PROGRAMS

Life Essentials Program

The Michael Magro Foundation was created to bring hope, support, and relief to families facing the unimaginable—the diagnosis of pediatric cancer or other chronic childhood illnesses. Our mission is to enhance the lives of children undergoing treatment, pediatric cancer survivors, and their families by providing critical resources, financial assistance, and emotional support.

Michael Magro was just 13 years old, a seventh-grade student at Hicksville Middle School in Hicksville, New York, when he was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia (A.L.L.). A bright, kind-hearted, and determined young man, Michael had a passion for lacrosse and music, always bringing joy to those around him. He was a peacemaker, a friend to all, and a source of strength for his family and friends. Even in the face of illness, he never lost his spirit, inspiring everyone with his courage and resilience. Tragically, Michael’s battle with leukemia was brief, but his legacy continues to shine through the work of this foundation

Founded in January 2005, the Michael Magro Foundation was established to honor Michael’s life and carry forward his spirit of kindness and perseverance. Our work began at the Cancer Center for Kids at NYU Winthrop-University Hospital, where Michael received his care. Over time, our reach has expanded to support families receiving treatment across various NYU Winthrop pediatric specialties and beyond, ensuring that children and their loved ones receive the help they need during their most challenging moments.

Today, we remain dedicated to providing comfort, financial aid, and programs that make a real difference for children in treatment. Michael’s memory lives on in every family we support, every child we uplift, and every act of generosity that brings hope to those who need it most.

Together, we honor Michael’s legacy—one family at a time.
