The Michael Magro Foundation Timeline highlights the incredible milestones we’ve achieved since our founding. It reflects our unwavering commitment to supporting pediatric cancer patients, their families, and the medical professionals who care for them. This timeline showcases the growth of our programs, the generosity of our supporters, and the profound impact we’ve made together -creating hope, meeting urgent needs, and transforming lives every step of the way.
2005-2009 Funds Raised $533,995
- Established the foundation in memory of Michael Magro along with a board of directors.
- Partnered with Pediatric Oncology Social Workers and Child Life Specialist at the three Long Island Pediatric Oncology centers.
- Funded essential equipment Luminex vein finders and educational tools.
- Established Project SOAR (School-re-entry & Ongoing Academic Resources) Manual for school re-entry.
- Launched the Gift Card Program to assist families with food, transportation, and medicine.
- Secured corporate sponsorships with companies like Kohl’s, Macy’s, Ameriprise Financial and Priority Payment Systems.
- Hosted impactful events such as Evening of Tasting & Giving and grassroots fundraisers such as car shows and sports tournaments.
2010-2014 Funds Raised $657,657
- Expanded support to Golisano Children’s Hospital in Florida, donating specialized equipment like Medikin teaching dolls.
- Strengthened relationships with Child Life Specialists and pediatric social workers at a variety of hospitals.
- Introduced Chemo Duck kits to help newly diagnosed children understand their treatments.
- Life Essentials and Little Wishes programs developed and grew in scope and outreach.
- Held the inaugural Annual Golf Outing, now a cornerstone event for the foundation.
- Increased financial assistance through grants, aiding families with rent, utilities, and other expenses.
- Hicksville High School Scholarship program was initiated to benefit 2 students each year.
2015-2019 Funds Raised $1,030,194
- Expanded partnerships to hospitals beyond New York and Florida.
- Enhanced programs to meet rising demand, including financial assistance for mortgage/rent, food, utilities, car payments/car insurance and transportation.
- Supported Child Life Initiatives and launched a music therapy program supported with instruments, purchased IPAD’s and MAC Computer, organized toy drives throughout the year.
- Started Operation Playcation and the “Fill a Backpack” school supply drive.
- Partnered with corporations like Siena Wealth Advisors, East End Group (Northeast Group), Investors Bank (Citizens Bank) to extend outreach.
- Established Operation Playcation: hosted a video game telethon, raising $8,000 to purchased 35 PS4 consoles, games for NYU Langone LI and Stonybrook Hospitals
2020-2024 Funds Raised $1,831,204
- Adapted quickly during the pandemic, providing meals, COVID-19 supply bags, and support for frontline workers.
- Partnered with 29 hospitals across 15 states to meet growing referral requests.
- Expanded Distraction Bag and Adopt-a-Family programs to support more patients and families.
- Added new corporate sponsors, including Amazon, Verizon, and VIP Auto Group.
- Launched the Ambassador Program to engage businesses and developed a Planned Giving Program for long-term sustainability.
Future Goals
- To raise $500,000 – $750,000 annually to fund expanding programs.
- To develop a Planned Giving Program for individuals donor to make charitable gifts that are part of their financial plan.
- Enhance our corporate giving program initiative that encourages employees to make charitable donations to the Michael Magro Foundation.
- Grow the Family Resource Network to offer emotional, financial, and educational support.
- Enhance programs for pediatric patients and their siblings, partnering with hospitals across the United States.
- Develop an endurance program for kids recovering from cancer.
- Strengthen donor engagement through events, marketing, and social media outreach.
