Michael Magro Foundation
Donates VeinViewer Flex Imaging Systems to Winthrop

flex-imaging-system1Mineola, NY – Sharing Winthrop’s philosophy of minimizing anxiety for pediatric patients, the Michael Magro Foundation recently donated four VeinViewer Flex Imaging Systems to the Hospital’s pediatric units. These systems enable healthcare professionals to view veins through the skin, facilitating easier and more successful IVs and blood tests for young patients.

Using this technology, healthcare professionals can locate subcutaneous veins and project real-time images of their location onto the surface of the skin. With the patient’s veins illuminated, clinicians have the ability to visualize the location of the target area regardless of the patient’s age, body type or skin tone.

The VeinViewer Flex Imaging System is a portable system that healthcare professionals can bring directly to patients’ bedside. Clinicians are currently using VeinViewer Flex Imaging System in Winthrop’s Pediatric Emergency Room, the Pediatric Inpatient Unit, the Pediatric Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, and Winthrop’s Cancer Center for Kids (CCFK).

flex-imaging-system2“Whether a child comes to the Hospital for a serious or routine condition, blood tests and intravenous treatments are always a major concern for the patient and their parents,” said Dr. Warren Rosenfeld, Chairman of the Department of Pediatrics at Winthrop. “The donation of the VeinViewer Flex Imaging Systems by the Michael Magro Foundation makes blood work and IVs a lot less stressful for children and parents alike.”

This technology is just one more way that the Michael Magro Foundation is helping young patients and their families at Winthrop. Established by the Magro family in honor of Michael Magro, who passed away in July 2004 after a courageous battle with leukemia, the Michael Magro Foundation assists children who are undergoing medical treatment and their families. The Foundation’s longtime support has benefited countless individuals at Winthrop.
