Michael Magro Foundation Holds Fourth Annual HHS Lacrosse Alumni Game with MDP Lacrosse

If you’re an alumni of Hicksville High School and you played lacrosse, the Michael Magro Foundation is looking for you. On Saturday, June 18th, thelacrosse-2016-mmf-232x300 organization will hold their Fourth Annual Hicksville High School. Men’s and Women’s Lacrosse Alumni Game on the Hicksville High School field. The event will run from 1:30 pm to 4 pm, and promises to be a great day for the community and participants alike. All lacrosse alumni are invited to sign up to play.

Sponsored by MDP Lacrosse, the event will benefit the Michael Magro Foundation by helping to meet the needs of chronically ill pediatric patients by developing programs and providing services. The lacrosse game will be held rain or shine, and attendees are invited to bring a blanket and stay for a great time. The Lacrosse Alumni Games will begin at 1:30 pm and will run until around 4 pm.

Jimmy Montana, the driving force behind MDP Lacrosse, will be organizing the event. Montana hopes to have two alum games this year, and is on the hunt for all those who are willing to donate their time on a Saturday afternoon to help others. Because this year’s event falls right in the middle of lacrosse season, many lacrosse teams in the Hicksville area will either be traveling or playing at their own school games. VP Terrie Magro of the Michael Magro Foundation realized that it would be close to impossible to host a tournament at the busiest part of the lacrosse season, which is why there will only be two games played during this charity event.

Registration for the Fourth Annual Men’s and Women’s Alumni Games will take place at 12 noon. There is a $50 donation that is required at the time of registration. The fee and all proceeds from the event will directly benefit the Michael Magro Foundation. The registration fee includes the cost of the lacrosse pinnie, which will be distributed at the time of the game, as well as the privilege to play in the game. All participants will also receive official Michael Magro Foundation apparel, which will be a pair of lacrosse socks with Michael Magro’s own #33 on the cuff. The event will also feature raffles, refreshments, and t-shirts for purchase.

The women’s alumni game begins at 1:30 pm, and will run for approximately one hour. The men’s alumni game is set to start at 2:30 pm. The entire event ends at around 4 pm, when an after-party for participants and attendees that will be hosted by Legends on Broadway in Hicksville. The owners of Legends on Broadway have graciously donated all of the food for the party. There will be a cash bar for anyone interested in celebrating with cocktails. Everyone from the community is invited to join in the celebration with players and attendees alike. Raffles will continue to be sold throughout the after-party.

According to Terrie Magro, “This year, we will have a special raffle item – four tickets to a Mets game! It will be an afternoon game in July, with many perks for the winners. The tickets were donated at a board meeting, and it’s a great prize for any Mets fan.” The perks haven’t been mentioned per se, although they are said to be “really good”.

According to Terrie, “The Alumni Lacrosse Event is something that Paul and I always look forward to. This day brings together alumni of all ages, who play hard and show their support to the Foundation by playing a sport that they love for charity. Lacrosse was Michael’s favorite sport, and we just know he is enjoying watching from above, cheering on all the players.” Terrie and Paul’s other son, Marc, also played lacrosse for Hicksville High School. “Marc will be on the field with his defense stick, enjoying the day and re-connecting with friends and players from both teams.”

Funds raised from this event will be used to purchase infant toys for the in-patient pediatric unit at CCFK Winthrop Pediatric Associates. As Terrie states, “Infants and toddlers love toys that make music, light up and are colorful. When a child is in the examination room preparing for a procedure or laying in a crib, they are naturally frightened. Having a fun toy to interact with helps these very ill children to smile and refocus. Because of infection control procedures, once an infant receives a toy, it becomes theirs. Nobody takes it away from them. The infant goes home with the toy, and I go back to Toys R Us to replace the item for another child in the future.” Past events have enabled the Michael Magro Foundation to purchase games for the gaming systems at each location of CCFK, and this event will be no different. Aside from purchasing games, DVD’s will also be purchased for older children to enjoy.

Online registration is required for this event. For any questions, please contact Jimmy Montana of MDP Lacrosse at (631) 244-0239, or via email at contact@mdplacrosse.com.
