Show Your Gold for Childhood Cancer Awareness Month
It’s September…the time to start saying goodbye to summer, hello to autumn, and seeing kids get on the bus for the beginning of another school year. It is also the month set aside as Pediatric Cancer Awareness Month. Why do we need a month set aside to highlight pediatric cancer? Ask any parent of a child battling cancer today and they will let you know that tiny bodies going through chemotherapy are heartbreaking to watch. We know that advances in medicine have helped improve the odds for children diagnosed with cancer, but the numbers are still astounding!
Did you know…
- Certain types of pediatric cancers are still incurable?
- 1 in 6 pediatric cancer patients will not survive the next 5 years.
- 1 in every 285 children in the U.S. will be diagnosed with cancer before the age of 20.
- Approximately 10,470 children under the age of 15 will be diagnosed with cancer in the U.S. in 2022.
- Only 6 new drugs have been developed for pediatric cancers since 2020.
- Cancer is the number 1 cause of death by illness for children in America. It is the number 2 cause of death in children overall (after accidents).

The Michael Magro Foundation is so grateful for the friends we have made throughout the years. Together we have raised funds, raised awareness, and made it possible for families to get through the worst of times as their children battle cancer. Now we are making a difference in the lives of families all over the country. But, with 42 children diagnosed with cancer each and every day, our work is far from over. Let’s fight this fight together. Let’s SHOW OUR GOLD together and show these tiny warriors and their families that we are here to help.
